Can you believe we’re already approaching the end of the year? It feels like January — with all that crazy rain — was just yesterday! As we wrap up 2025 and look ahead to 2026, we’d love to hear how your family celebrates, relaxes, and enjoys the holiday season.
Thanksgiving is next week, which means most kiddos are home from school. That usually brings a mix of resting, horseplay, and — let’s be honest — a little more screen time than usual. If you’ve been around Restoration Chiropractic for a while, you’ve probably heard us talk about the cervical curve (the natural curve in your neck). One of our biggest missions is helping protect that curve throughout childhood and into adulthood to prevent long-term issues.
Two of the easiest ways to support a healthy cervical curve?
Keep the bottom of the screen above eye level so your child isn’t constantly looking down. Whether they’re watching TV, playing video games, or using a tablet, this one shift makes a huge difference. And don’t forget — a quick stretch break every 30 minutes helps too!
Gentle, neurologically-based adjustments help remove nerve interference so your child’s brain and body can communicate properly. This supports healthy development and reduces stress on the spine.
But we get it… limiting screen time is easier said than done. So here are a few fun, screen-free ideas for each age range to keep your kiddos entertained over the break:
Ages 1–3: Grab scrap paper and a little washable, non-toxic paint. Put a few drops on a paper plate and let them create a finger-paint masterpiece. Instant refrigerator artwork!
Ages 4–7: Use painter’s tape to make a “finish line” in the hallway. Let your little racers line up their toy cars and see which one wins. On your mark, get set… GO!
Ages 8–12: Try a Thanksgiving alphabet challenge. Go through the alphabet and see who can think of a Thanksgiving-themed word for each letter (P = pumpkin pie!). Turn it into a friendly competition!
Teens: Have them look up a new recipe, order the ingredients, and cook a full meal for the family. Extra points if they clean the kitchen after!
What are some of your favorite screen-free activities? We love anything that gets kids moving — movement is amazing for both the brain and the body.
Another way to get your family involved this season is by supporting local outreach programs in Prosper, Celina, McKinney, and surrounding areas. These organizations provide food, clothing, and essentials to families who need them most, and our Restoration community has always shown generous support. Here are a few we love:
An incredible group supporting grandparents raising their grandchildren. We partnered with Grand Love this summer to provide backpacks and school supplies for the new school year.
Neighbors Nourishing Neighbors (Celina Food Pantry)
A wonderful organization that helps provide staple foods to families in need. Their location in Celina is open for anyone needing assistance or wanting to donate.
An extraordinary nonprofit providing food and clothing to the community. They host food distribution days on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month. Their special Thanksgiving Distribution Day is Saturday, November 22nd — and we’ve always been blown away by your generosity during our past food drives!
Keep an eye out for our upcoming blog post about our annual toy donation drive! In the meantime, slip into your stretchiest pants, pick a football team to cheer for, eat all the mashed potatoes your heart desires, hug your loved ones extra tight, and get involved in the community if you’re able.
And whatever you do… don’t forget to thaw the turkey!
Happy Thanksgiving, Restoration Family!
